Viewing and celebrating birthdays

Updated on

On Birthdays you see who has an upcoming birthday.

What you see

  • Birthdays this month — everyone with a birthday in the current calendar month.
  • All birthdays — a running overview of all birthdays in your environment, sorted by month and day.

Only members who have made their date of birth visible appear in this overview. Administrators always see everyone who has a date of birth filled in, with their age shown.

Setting what's visible yourself

Go to My account and set, under Date of birth, who may see this:

  • Hidden — nobody sees your birthday.
  • Day and month — others see the date, not your age.
  • Full date — including birth year and age.

Automatic congratulations

Depending on your club's settings:

  • On the dashboard, a card appears on someone's birthday. As a regular member you only see this for yourself and your own connections; administrators see everyone.
  • Some environments automatically send a congratulation email on the day itself.
  • Some environments send a push notification to your connections on your birthday — this happens independently of your date-of-birth privacy setting, so even if you're set to "Hidden," your connections can still get a notification that it's your birthday.

Frequently asked questions

  • I got a notification that someone has a birthday, but I don't see the date on the birthdays page. The push notification to connections works independently of the birthday person's privacy setting; the overview on the page does take it into account.
  • Does this page only show birthdays in the next 30 days? No, you see this month plus an overview of all birthdays in the year, not limited to 30 days.
  • Can I hide my age but still show the date? Yes, choose "Day and month" — then the date is visible but not your age.
