Making connections with other members

Updated on

A connection is a mutual link between two members — you have to establish it together, it's not something that happens automatically.

Requesting a connection

  1. Open the member's profile (for example from the member overview or directory).
  2. Click Make connection.
  3. Confirm.

The other member gets a notification. As long as they haven't responded yet, you'll see "Connection request sent" on your own screen — click this if you want to withdraw the request.

Accepting or declining a request

Received a connection request yourself? You'll see it on Connections, under Connection requests, with the sender's name and two buttons: Accept or Decline. You can also accept a request directly from the sender's profile.

Managing your connections

Once accepted, the connection appears under My connections. From this overview you can immediately start a chat, or remove the connection (trash icon, with confirmation). Either side can remove a connection at any time.

What else connections are used for

  • Chat — if your environment doesn't have the member overview set to public, you can only chat with members you have a connection with. If the member overview is public (or the connections feature is off), you can chat with everyone.
  • Birthdays — as a regular member, the dashboard only shows you birthday alerts for yourself and your connections (administrators see everyone).

Frequently asked questions

  • I can't start a chat with someone. Check whether you have a connection — if the member overview at your club isn't public, a connection is required in order to chat.
  • Can I block someone via connections? No, connections don't have a block feature — you can remove a connection though.
  • Can the other person see that I haven't accepted the request yet? Yes, the sender sees that the request is still open and can withdraw it.
