Giving away free tickets
There are two ways to give someone access to your event without payment.
Sending one person a free ticket
- Go to the Tickets tab of your event and click Send free ticket.
- Choose the ticket type.
- Fill in the email address, and the name if this address isn't a member in the app yet.
- Click Send.
If the email address is already known as a member, the ticket automatically appears for that person under My tickets, with a "Free" badge. If the address isn't known, that person receives the ticket by email as a guest.
This works for any ticket type, regardless of its set price — a €25 ticket can be given away for free this way. It does still count towards the available capacity though: if a ticket type is sold out, you can no longer send a free copy of it either. You can send the same person a second ticket if needed (for example for a partner) — if you send to the same address again within 30 seconds, the app asks you to wait a moment, to prevent accidental double-clicks.
Creating a free ticket type
Want people to be able to claim a free ticket themselves, without you having to send every request individually? Create a ticket type with price €0.00, just like any other ticket type. Visitors then go through the normal order process, except the payment step is skipped.
To prevent abuse, a stricter limit applies here than for a paid ticket: a maximum of 3 free ticket requests per half hour per email address.
Seeing how many you've given away
On your event's financial summary (Ticketing), you'll see a separate figure "Free tickets" — this counts both the personally sent free tickets and the self-claimed €0 tickets together.
Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between the two methods? "Send free ticket" is a targeted action to exactly one email address, for any ticket type. A €0 ticket type is self-service: anyone can claim it themselves via the normal ticket page.
- Does a free ticket cost capacity? Yes, in both cases it counts towards the available number of tickets of that type.
- Can I see how much revenue I've theoretically given away? Yes, for every personally sent free ticket, the regular price of that ticket type is recorded in the log.
- The recipient has no account — where do they find the ticket? Via the link in the confirmation email; that stays valid for up to thirty days after the event.
