Let in twice after offline scanning

Updated on

If there was offline scanning, the event page shows an overview of what went wrong or was done manually. It isn't an error message: offline, a scanner can't know what another scanner is doing, so some things only become visible once there is a connection again.

Where to find it

Open the event. The Ticket sales card contains the Offline scanning block. It only appears when there is something to report, and only for people who manage the event.

What the counters mean

  • Let in twice (offline) – a ticket that had already been scanned was let in once more offline. Usually someone shared a screenshot of their ticket, or showed the same ticket at two entrances while one of them had no signal.
  • Let in manually – how often a volunteer tapped Let in anyway at the orange "Possibly just bought" message. After of which invalid you see how many of those codes later turned out not to be a real ticket.
  • Let in after revocation (registered) – offline scans from a device that has since been revoked or expired, or from a scanner that was deactivated. Who came in at the time is recorded as a trail; the ticket is no longer checked in with it.

Below that is a table with Time, Device, Ticket type and Result, with Let in twice, Let in manually, Manual, invalid or Registered after revocation on each line. That way you know which volunteer to talk to.

The scanner itself reports it too: after sending, the volunteer sees how many offline scans turned out to be invalid or already used.

What to do with it

Once someone is in, they're in: you don't reverse such a scan. Use the overview to learn from it:

  • Lots of double entries at one entrance? Make sure there is signal there, or have fewer devices working offline at the same time.
  • Lots of "manual, invalid" on one device? Agree with that volunteer that they really check the payment email before tapping Let in anyway.
  • A stolen or lost phone? Revoke the device; see Offline scanning.

Frequently asked questions

Can this also happen if all scanners are online? No. Online, every scan goes through the server, which lets a ticket in only once.

Can a forged ticket get in offline? Not with a normal scan. Only via Let in anyway, and then it is listed here as invalid.

Does a double entry use up an extra place? Not in the count: the ticket counts as checked in once.
