Managing the navigation

Bijgewerkt op

In 4planning you can manage your environment's navigation through Navigation items. You can change the order, add headers and links, place links as a sublink under a main link, and add external links. This article explains how.

Opening navigation items

  1. Log in to your 4planning environment.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open Navigation management.

The navigation items overview

For each item the overview shows the columns:

  • Item
  • Type (for example Header or Link)
  • Visibility (adjustable for links)
  • Actions (delete and move)

Changing the order of menu items

  1. Find the item you want to move.
  2. Use the move icon (the cross with arrows) under Actions, or drag the items up or down.
  3. Move the item to the position you want in the list.
  4. Click Save.

Setting the visibility of menu items

For items of the type Link you can set Visibility using the dropdown in the Visibility column.

  1. Find the item whose visibility you want to change.
  2. Choose the option you want under Visibility: everyone, or administrators only.
  3. Click Save.

Adding a navigation header

A Header creates a heading in the menu — a separator or group title.

  1. Go to the Add navigation header block.
  2. Open Choose a header.
  3. Select the header you want.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click Save.

A Link adds a standard menu item pointing to a section within 4planning.

  1. Go to the Add navigation link block.
  2. Open Choose a link and select the link you want to add.
  3. (Optional) Open Choose main link (optional) and select a main link.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Click Save.

Under Choose main link (optional) there is a note: if selected, this item becomes a sublink.

Add external link adds a menu item pointing to an external URL, such as another environment or website.

  1. Go to the Add external link block.
  2. Under Name, enter the name that should appear in the menu.
  3. Under URL (full link), enter the complete URL.
  4. Choose the option you want under Visibility.
  5. (Optional) Under Choose main link (optional), choose a main link to place the external link as a sublink.
  6. Click Add external link.
  7. Click Save.

Deleting a navigation item

  1. Find the item you want to delete.
  2. Click the delete icon (the bin) under Actions.
  3. Click Save.

Back to default

At the top of the page there is a Back to default button. This resets the navigation to the default configuration.

Tips for effective use

  • Use Headers to group the menu clearly.
  • Use Choose main link (optional) to place items as a sublink under a main link.
  • After making changes, test whether the navigation makes sense to users.

Good to know

  • Changes only take effect after you click Save.
  • When adding links you can use Choose main link (optional) to place an item under a main link (a sublink).
  • Back to default resets the navigation to the default configuration.
