Creating a quote with Planny

Updated on

Instead of typing every line yourself, you can have Planny draft a quote concept based on a description of the job.

Step 1: Start with Planny

  1. Go to Quotes and click New.
  2. Choose the With Planny card.
  3. Search for and select the customer.
  4. Describe the job in the text field — the more concrete (dimensions, materials, wishes), the better the result. For example: "Strip and re-tile a 6 m² bathroom, new toilet, materials included." If speech-to-text is enabled in your environment, you can also speak the description.
  5. Click Draft.

Step 2: Review the proposal

Planny shows a concept with a title, quote lines (category, description, quantity, price), a total amount excl. VAT, and a list of assumptions Planny made to arrive at the prices.

Not quite what you were after? Type in "What should change?" what you'd like adjusted (for example "more expensive tiles, labour separate") and let Planny refine the concept. You can also click Start over to begin from scratch.

Happy with it? Click Set up & open. You'll land in the regular quote editor, with a banner indicating this concept was drafted by Planny — always check the quantities and prices before sending.

Where do the prices come from?

Planny looks at the lines from your own previous quotes that were sent or approved (drafts and rejected quotes don't count) and uses the most recent price per description. If you don't have any quote history yet, Planny prices based on general market knowledge and states this explicitly among the assumptions.

What Planny does and doesn't do

Planny drafts a concept with lines and prices — you remain responsible for checking, adjusting, setting discount/VAT and sending it. Planny never sends or approves a quote itself.

Frequently asked questions

  • "Tell me a bit more about the job." — your description is too short; add more detail.
  • "The AI assistant isn't available right now." — try again later, or create a blank quote.
  • "Planny couldn't create a usable concept." — refine your description and try again.
  • "The session has expired." — this happens if you wait too long before reviewing; generate the concept again.
  • Does this cost extra? Every generation counts towards your environment's regular Planny usage (visible under Settings → Planny AI — usage & costs).
  • Can I do this via chat with Planny too? Yes, ask Planny in chat to create a quote based on a description.
