Companies in your club
With Companies you record which companies belong to your club: name, logo, industry, website and a short description. You then link members to them. Useful for business clubs and networking clubs, where members look for each other by company or field just as often as by name.
If the member directory is on as well, it gains a second view: next to People you can switch to Companies, and filter by industry.
Step 1: turn the feature on
Go to Settings › Features and turn on Companies. A Companies menu item then appears for administrators.
The Company name field on a member is switched on automatically — that is where you link someone to a company. Without that field you would see the feature but be unable to link anyone.
Step 2: add companies
Open Companies and click Add company. At first you only need a name; you fill in the rest on the next step:
- Logo — drag a file onto the box or click to choose one. You can then crop it, for example to trim whitespace. A logo is never squeezed into a square, so a landscape logo stays landscape.
- Industry — what the company does. You can filter on this later in the member directory.
- Website, business email address and social media — leave blank whatever does not exist; empty fields are not shown.
- Maximum number of members — only fill this in if you have an agreement about it. See step 4.
Were you already using the Company name field? Then those names have been converted to companies automatically, and the members are already linked.
Step 3: link members
Open a member via Members, click Edit and pick the right company under Company. There you see each company's logo, industry and how many members are already linked.
Members can also do this themselves under My account. A member belongs to one company at a time.
Step 4: a maximum number of seats
Does your club sell memberships per company — "four people per company", say? Then set Maximum number of members to yes on that company and enter the number. Set to no, there is no maximum.
Note where this does and does not block. If you link a member to a full company via Edit member or Add member, it is refused. If someone arrives through a member import, an invitation, the Sportlink connection, or because the member sets it themselves under My account, the maximum is a counter and not a lock: you will see "5 of 4 seats", but the link is not blocked.
Step 5: clean up duplicate companies
If "Jansen BV" and "Jansen B.V." are in the list as two companies, a strip with possible duplicate names appears at the top of the management page. Pick which name stays; all members of the other company move across, and empty fields are filled in with whatever the disappearing company still had.
Are they genuinely two different companies? Click Ignore — that pair will not come back.
Who may do what
Every member can browse the companies and open a company page. Adding, deleting, merging and changing the industry is for a system administrator only. A member may update the profile of the company they are linked to themselves: logo, description, website and social media.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between "Company" and "Companies" in the settings? Company is just a text field on a member, without a logo or a page of its own. Companies turns it into real company profiles you link members to. Turn Companies on and Company follows automatically.
- I don't see any companies in the member directory. Both Companies and the member directory must be on, and Company must be visible in the member directory settings.
- Why does the directory open on People and not on Companies? That is the default, because companies without a logo all show the same icon. You change it under Settings › Member directory; it also tells you how many of your companies already have a logo. Members can always switch — the app remembers that choice per device.
- Can a member belong to two companies? No, one company per member.
- What happens if I delete a company? The members simply stay; only the link disappears.
- Can I collect membership fees per company? No, fees run per member.
